Canada to reinstate citizenship rights to "lost Canadians"
The federal government is planning an important change to how second-generation children born abroad to Canadian citizens can gain citizenship. Since 2009, Canadian parents who were born abroad could not pass down their citizenship, unless the child was born in Canada. Mackenzie Gray explains the changes, who qualifies, and what it means for Canadian parents who had children outside the country in the past 15 years. [Global National]

For CBC News, local service means being in the community. But it also means being present on the platforms and devices that an increasing number of people use to access news and information. That’s why today we announced the official launch of two new local news streaming channels, along with plans to launch another 12 free local streams within a year. [CBC]

Bruce spent 44 years in the newspaper business before retiring in 2014. He began his career as a copy-boy at the Belleville Intelligencer and eventually became managing editor at the Cornwall Standard-Freeholder and the Sarnia Observer. He subsequently served as publisher of the newspapers in Kirkland Lake and Orillia before taking the same position in Thunder Bay in 1994. Colin had a big influence in my career. He was my publisher at the Orillia Packet & Times and again when I moved to the Thunder Bay Chronicle-Journal. He was a rare commodity: A newsman turned publisher. Most publishers I've ever known come from a business or advertising background, few have actually worked in the newsroom. He and his family looked out for my welfare and professional advancement at both the papers we worked at and I'll always be grateful for that. My condolences to his wife Grace and his family.
