Sudds was elected in 2021 in the riding of Kanata-Carleton but the new riding of Kanata loses most of its rural character -- where just about everyone voted Conservative -- and is now just a solidly urban/suburban riding where most polls in 2021 were Liberal. For those who know the riding, most of the Carleton part, from Dunrobin to Constance Bay to Arnprior is now part of Pierre Poilievre's riding of Carleton. The only rural community staying in Kanata is Carp.
On paper, Kanata should be an easier win for the Liberals. In 2021, Sudds won by three points over the Conservatives, 41.8% to 38.6%, but redistributing those results on to the new riding boundaries, Sudds' margin is now seven points, or 43.5% to 36.4%. And yet, even with that head start, it may not be enough for the Liberals to hold, given that their current polling fortunes have fallen so far.
