... this day in 2006: Sc 2175:  Endangered Species I: Blotched tiger salamander. Design: Sputnik Design Partners.
The blotched tiger salamander is native to southwestern Saskatchewan, southern Alberta and the southern mountain region of British Columbia. They are large salamanders measuring anywhere from 15-20 cm from tip to tail.

Canada's Species At Risk registry no longer lists something specific as the "Blotched Tiger Salamander" but it does list a "Tiger Salamander" in the West and the Prairies. The status for both those species this week is "non-active". Not exactly sure what that means but there you are ...

This stamp was from the first of three four-stamp sets featuring species that were endangered in the early part of the century.
