Issued this day ...
… in 2014. Sc 2755. Ottawa Redblacks: Russ Jackson. Design: Filip Mroz, David Rosenberg | Bensimon Byrne.
Issued to mark the return of professional football to the national capital. The RedBlacks succeeded the old Ottawa Rough Ridders and this stamps features Russ Jackson, who during my lifetime at least, was the best and best-known Ottawa Rough Rider quarterback. He spent his whole 12-year career with the Black Riders. (Yes, Virginia, the CFL once had two teams with the same name: The Rough Riders were the “Eastern Riders” and the Roughriders were (and still are) the Green Riders) He’s also the best Canadian-born quarterback to play in the CFL, if you ask me. He helmed the Rough Riders to three Grey Cups.
