Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Ontario Premier Doug Ford traded barbs on Tuesday over talk of Alberta's possible separation from Canada. [Global]

Party filings with Elections Manitoba show the NDP garnered more than $1.8 million in contributions and fundraising in 2024 – roughly triple the Tories' amount. The NDP managed to wipe out its accumulated deficit and end the year with a surplus of $835,000. [CP]

India fires missiles across border with Pakistan as Kashmir tensions soar
India fired missiles into Pakistani-controlled territory in several locations early Wednesday, killing at least 26 people including a child, in what Pakistan’s leader called an act of war. Pakistan claimed it shot down several Indian fighter jets in retaliation as two planes fell onto villages in India-controlled Kashmir. At least seven civilians were also killed in the region by Pakistani shelling, Indian police and medics said. [AP Live updates]

The company with the world’s largest aircraft now has a hypersonic rocket plane
Twice in the last five months, the company launched a hypersonic vehicle over the Pacific Ocean, accelerated it to more than five times the speed of sound, and autonomously landed at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. Stratolaunch used the same vehicle for both flights. This is the first time anyone in the United States has flown a reusable hypersonic rocket plane since the last flight of the X-15, the iconic rocket-powered aircraft that pushed the envelope of high-altitude, high-speed flight 60 years ago.
