Ethernet co-inventor Bob Metcalfe wins the Turing Award, the 'Nobel Prize of computing'
Bob Metcalfe received the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) A.M. As a tech reporter in the 1990s, I ran into Metcalfe often -- was even invited, once, to a dinner party at his townhouse on Boston's Back Bay where I ended up sitting next to WWW inventor Tim Berners-Lee (that's a whole other story) -- and found him to be an absolute delight. Great humour. As curious about Canada as many tech execs I've ever met. (Likely a result that he owns a property in Maine who, as we all know, are "almost Canadians.") Never resorted to "corporate speak" baloney when you turned the tape on for an interview. And his contributions to networking -- not just Ethernet, but also TCP/IP -- are exceptional.
